Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide direct services to those whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS, to offer education about HIV/AIDS to help prevent its spread, and to promote understanding within the communities served.

Services to People Living with HIV/AIDS

All services of the AIDS Project of Southern Vermont are free and confidential. We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. To this end, we provide:

Case Management

Assistance for HIV positive individuals in receiving and maintaining needed medical, social and vocational services. We provide referrals to and coordination with a broad range of human services in the community.

Benefits Advocacy

Assistance with applications for state and federal insurance programs that provide medical services, medications, dental care, Social Security and disability issues.

Food Programs

Dove Program: Non-perishable food, nutritional supplements and personal care items available to supplement the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and their households. These items are donated from members of area faith communities and shoppers at the Brattleboro Food Co-op.
Gathering for Mealtime: We provide frozen food, non-perishable food, and fresh fruits and vegetables to our clients in the community. We offer items on a rotating basis that are available at our offices. This program is a collaboration with the Vermont Foodbank.

Financial Assistance
Limited state and agency funding to assist eligible clients with housing, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, transportation, nutrition, emergencies and other needs related to HIV/AIDS care.

HIV Testing & Counseling

The AIDS Project provides free and anonymous HIV testing and counseling in a safe atmosphere. We offer two types of HIV testing:

OraSure
A swab is taken of the inside of your mouth and sent to a lab for testing.
Results are usually available in one to two weeks from the date of testing.
OraQuick
Rapid HIV testing. This oral test gives results in just 20 minutes.
Like OraSure, this antibody test is very accurate. However, additional testing must be done to confirm a preliminary positive test result.

Both tests are safe and effective. To retain anonymity feel free to use any name to reserve your testing time.
