Outright Vermont

Non Profit: LGBT-Identified Gay Owned Business

The Mission of Outright Vermont is to build safe, healthy, and supportive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.  Founded in 1989 by local gay and lesbian activists, ORVT helped to create visibility, support, and advocacy throughout the 90s for the queer youth community in Vermont. Our programs, groups, and services (unless otherwise stated) are for young LGBTQ (or queer) people, ages 22 and under.

FRIDAY NIGHT GROUP! This general lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning, social/support group meets every Friday! (no matter holidays or the weather). Group starts promptly at 7pm and lasts till around 8:30pm. Emphasis is placed upon peer support with adult queer facilitators present to add input & guidance. This group is a great place to meet a lot of new people at once & has become the weekly social hub for queer youth (especially in high school).

Speaker's Bureau

Our Speaker's Bureau goes to schools to engage students, teachers, and administrators in dialogue about queer vocabulary, school climates, and (most frequently) how to address bullying and harassment. We currently have fifteen active queer youth on the panel who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender queer, questioning, and allies. Their ages range from as young as 13 to as old as 22.

Witnessing Vermont queer youth sharing their stories, first-hand accounts, and experiences about their lives is truly a unique and powerful learning tool. We are repeatedly told that our panels are the most effective education program that we provide. We provide an annual Speaker's Panel training for new and current youth in which they are instructed how to most effectively tell their stories, provided with a basic overview of sexuality terminology and theory, and encouraged to build friendships with each other.

Invite the panel to your school today! Call 802-865-9677.

Join our panel! Email the staff at info[at]outrightvt.org to find out about the next training.
