In a post-feminist world, the imperative to celebrate and preserve the lives and cultural work of the Queer community is serious business.
According to Pacifica, 90% of 7000 applications for broadcast licenses during the recent window opened by the FCC, were filed by Christian media franchises and organizations. This phenomenon, only one piece of a highly organized, fully-funded, repressive quasi-political machine to theocratize America, underscores the need and urgency of noncommercial, community radio programs such as Woman-Stirred Radio, and its ability to provide fact-based information, current affairs, in-depth interviews, and analyses of issues that impact and effect Vermont's LGBTQ community.
Grounded in both the feminist and gay rights movements, WSR reaches out to rural, small town, and urban GLBTQ Vermonters. The format of WSR invites dialogue, debate, discovery, and exploration and represents both freedom of expression and a commitment to progress in social justices issues within and without Vermont's GLBTQ communities-things the religious right wants erased from public consciousness and from history. In this way, Woman-Stirred Radio works hard to enrich the lives of Vermont's GLBTQ citizens.
WGDR Plainfield, is a nonprofit, community radio station, and a Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Pacifica Radio affiliate. This year marks WGDR's 35th year on the air. Our broadcasts reach the greater Montpelier area in Central Vermont at 91.1 FM, and the rest of the world, streaming online at WGDR.org.
